Modeling clay has different nature(material):

• Water-based clay 
• Oil-based clay.
• PVC material clay.

if you don’t know water-based and oil-based. You can read What’s Different of Water-Based Clay & Oil Based Clay? first, Both water-based clay and oil-based clay don’t need to bake.  Polymer clay is PVC material, it needs to oven bake.
